Apparatus (1) for preventing splash water from a kitchen sink (10) spilling onto the floor or wetting a person doing the dishes, comprising a channel (1b), a water absorbing material (2) which is inserted into the channel (1b) and thereby pressed against the bottom of the kitchen counter top, a non-absorbing material (3) to seal the channel (1b) at its ends and a lip (1a).
