The battery (102, 202) has a unique identification number (UID) and the storage medium (104, 210) is configured to store the unique identification number (UID). The system (100, 200) further has a control unit (106, 204). The control unit (106, 204) is operably connected to the battery (102, 202) and the storage medium (104, 210). The control unit (106, 204) includes a cryptographic module (110, 208) and an authentication module (112, 206). The cryptographic module (110, 208) is configured to lock the unique identification number (UID) through a cryptographic key.
