The present invention relates to a silicon containing composite material comprising a plurality of silicon nanoparticles located within a carbon matrix, and an amorphous carbon external shell provided encompassing the silicon nanoparticles and carbon matrix, wherein the thickness of the amorphous carbon external shell is between about 10 nm to 5000 nm.[French]
