Abstract[English]
A method of converting poly(ethylene terephthalate) to terephthalic acid includes a glycolysis step in which poly(ethylene terephthalate) is reacted with ethylene glycol in the presence of a specific catalyst, a hydrolysis step in which the product of the glycolysis step is reacted with an alkali metal hydroxide to produce an alkali metal salt of terephthalic acid, and an acidification step in which the product of the hydrolysis step is acidified to yield a precipitate containing terephthalic acid. Each step of the method can be conducted at ambient or near-ambient pressure, and the method produces terephthalic acid in high yield and high purity.[French]
L'invention concerne un procédé de conversion de poly(éthylène téréphtalate) en acide téréphtalique qui comprend une étape de glycolyse consistant à faire réagir du poly(éthylène téréphtalate) avec de l'éthylène glycol en présence d'un catalyseur spécifique, une étape d'hydrolyse consistant à faire réagir le produit de l'étape de glycolyse avec un hydroxyde de métal alcalin pour produire un sel de métal alcalin d'acide téréphtalique, et une étape d'acidification consistant à acidifier le produit de l'étape d'hydrolyse pour produire un précipité contenant de l'acide téréphtalique.
