An automated postal service device (1) for handling mail, comprising: a user interface (4); a slot (2) for placing a letter or parcel to be mailed; weighing means (15) for weighing the letter or parcel; dimensions measuring means for measuring the dimensions of the letter or parcel; processing means (10) for computing from the provided information regarding shipment of the letter or parcel, at least a delivery date and cost; label printing means (23) responsive to the processing means for printing a shipping label (22); storage means (29) for storing therein the letter or parcel; payment means for receiving payment from the user; said automated postal service device being characterized in that the slot (2) comprises transfer means for transferring the letter or parcel to the storage means and communication means for notifying a recipient for the shipment of the letter or parcel at the moment that the payment has been performed by the user.[French]
