Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Einstellen der vorgegebenen Fahrgeschwindigkeit als Führungsgröße einer Geschwindigkeitsregeleinrichtung eines Kraftfahrzeugs, wobei die Geschwindigkeitsregeleinrichtung ein für einen Fahrzeugführer während des Fahrens zugängliches Bedienelement aufweist, das die Eingabe einer Feinverstellung und einer Grobverstellung der vorgegebenen Fahrgeschwindigkeit ermöglicht, wobei das Verfahren die Schritte umfasst: Ermitteln, durch die Geschwindigkeitsregeleinrichtung, der Anzahl an Eingaben der Feinverstellung innerhalb eines Zeitfensters; Überprüfen durch die Geschwindigkeitsregeleinrichtung, ob die Anzahl an Eingaben einen Schwellenwert überschreitet; wenn die Anzahl der Eingaben den Schwellenwert überschreitet, Interpretieren der Eingaben durch die Geschwindigkeitsregeleinrichtung als Grobverstellung.
