Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Betreiben eines durch eine Verbrennungskraftmaschine (2) antreibbaren Kraftfahrzeugs (1), welches eine Abgaseinrichtung (3) zum Ausstoßen von Abgas der Verbrennungskraftmaschine (2) und wenigstens eine Sensoreinheit (4) aufweist, wobei das Verfahren die folgenden Schritte aufweist: - Erfassen von Betriebsdaten der Verbrennungskraftmaschine und/oder der Abgaseinrichtung mittels der Sensoreinheit; (S1) - Modellieren einer aktuellen im Abgas vorhandenen Partikelemission, welche anhand der Betriebsdaten und/oder wenigstens eines Stellwert durch eine Modellierungseinheit (6); (S2) - Abschätzen der kumulierten Streckenemission für eine Fahrstrecke anhand der modellierten, aktuellen Partikelemission; (S3) - Ermitteln eines Verfügungswerts anhand eines Vergleichs der Streckenemission mit einem Emissionsbudget für die Fahrstrecke. (S4) - In Abhängigkeit von dem Verfügungswerts: Ermittelten eines Betriebszustands des Kraftfahrzeugs (1), durch welchen die Streckenemission innerhalb des Emissionsbudget erreichbar ist; (S5) und - Betreiben des Kraftfahrzeugs (1) mittels des ermittelten Betriebszustands.
