The present invention relates to electro-optical devices and in particular energy-efficient liquid crystal displays comprising a liquid-crystalline switchable layer containing one or more dichroic dyes in relatively small amounts, to liquid-crystalline media for use in said devices, and to the use of said dichroic dyes in liquid crystal displays to reduce light leakage and to improve the contrast ratio.[French]
