Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Assemblieren einer Dünnschichteinheit (DE), vorzugsweise einer Membran-Elektroden-Einheit, mit einer Mehrzahl übereinander gestapelter Schichtlagen (10, 10', 10"), umfassend die Schritte a) Bereitstellen einer Schichtlage (10, 10', 10") mit einer definierten Länge, b) Aufwickeln der Schichtlage (10, 10', 10") auf eine Greifwalze (2, 2', 2"), wobei die Schichtlage (10, 10', 10") zumindest abschnittsweise am Umfang der Greifwalze (2, 2', 2") fixiert wird, c) Abwickeln der Schichtlage (10, 10', 10") von der Greifwalze (2, 2', 2") auf eine weitere Schichtlage (10, 10', 10"), d) Fixieren der nacheinander und/oder aufeinander abgelegten Schichtlagen (10, 10', 10"), e) Wiederholen der Schritte a) bis d) bis zum Erreichen einer vorbestimmten Anzahl von Schichtlagen (10, 10', 10"), und, optional, Einbringen von mindestens einer Öffnung in einem Randbereich der Schichtlagen (10, 10', 10").
