Filing requirements in Liechtenstein
The official language of the Liechtenstein trademark application is German.
For obtainment of a date of filing the trademark application in Liechtenstein should contain:
- a request for registration of a trademark;
- applicant’s details;
- representation of the trade mark;
- a list of goods/services for which the trademark is being asserted;
- payment of the filing fee.
If an applicant wishes to claim a priority of an earlier application, a certified copy of the Priority Document has to be submitted at the time of filing a trademark application. Priority documents can be written either in English or French. Filing of priority trademark applications in Liechtenstein requires a private seat or seat of business in Liechtenstein.
Legalisation or notarisation of a Power of Attorney is not required. It may be provided simultaneously with filing the application.
The term for filing a trademark application in Liechtenstein claiming conventional priority is 6 months from the priority date.

Examination, publication and opposition against a trademark in Liechtenstein
The application process includes a formal examination and an examination on absolute grounds of refusal, but no search for prior trademarks. The trademark will be registered if absolute grounds of refusal are not found or have been overcome during the examination. After registration, the trademark will be published online on www.amtsblatt.llv.li. The opposition period is not stipulated by the legislation in Liechtenstein.

Grant, validity term and trademark renewal
The official grant fee for a Liechtenstein trademark is not stipulated. A trademark in Liechtenstein is valid within ten years from the filing date and may be renewed every ten years. A renewal request should be submitted within 6 months before the expiration date of the registration. The trademark may be also renewed within six months after the renewal due date with payment of a corresponding surcharge.

The processing time from filing to registration is approximately 3-4 months in case of a smooth registration procedure.
Registration of the trademark in Liechtenstein can be cancelled on the grounds of non-use upon a third party’s request if the trademark has not been used for a continuous period of 5 years.
