Multiple design applications
Multiple design applications are not possible in Saudi Arabia. A separate application has to be filed for each industrial design.

Filing requirements of a design application in Saudi Arabia
To obtain the date of filing, a design application in Saudi Arabia should contain:
- an application for registration including applicant's and designer's details;
- type of product to which the industrial design will be applied;
- the title, description, and classes according the International Classification of Industrial Designs;
- a representation of the design;
- the country, application number, filing date of the priority application (if any).
A certified copy of the Priority Document should be submitted within 3 months from the filing date.
Original Power of Attorney notarized and apostilled should be submitted within 3 months from the filing date. At the time of filing a copy is sufficient.
If the application is filed by a person other than the designer, an apostilled Assignment Deed between the applicant and the designer must be submitted simultaneously with filing the application.
Saudi design applications claiming conventional priority should be filed within six months from the priority date. Restoration of the priority right is not possible.

Examination of a design application in Saudi Arabia
Design applications in Saudi Arabia are subject to formal examination only.
If the design was disclosed at an officially recognised international exhibition within six months prior to the filing date of the application, or due to the abusive acts against the applicant or his or her predecessor within six months prior to the filing date or the date of priority, if any, this does not disprove the novelty.

Grant, validity term and design renewal fees
The maximum validity period for industrial designs in Saudi Arabia is 15 years from the filing date, with no provision for extensions. For designs submitted before January 1, 2013, the validity period is 10 years from the filing date. Annual maintenance fees become due from the year following the filing date, with payment required between January 1 and March 31 of each subsequent year.
Those designs filed after January 1, 2013, require settlement of the 11th annuity fees before May 23, 2024, to benefit from the extended protection period.
