Multiple design applications
Multiple design applications are not possible in Kuwait. A separate application must be filed for each design.

Filing requirements of a design application in Kuwait
The official language of the proceedings before the Kuwaiti Patent Office is Arabic.
To obtain the filing date, the following documents must be submitted to the Kuwaiti Patent Office:
- name, address, nationality and occupation of the applicant;
- a copy of the extract from the Commercial Register (for legal entities);
- two representations of the design;
- a scanned copy of a simply signed Power of Attorney;
- a description of the design in Arabic (optional);
- a scanned copy of the priority document.
Originals of the Power of Attorney and the extract from the Commercial Register (if a legal entity) as well as the original of a certified copy of the Priority Document super legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait, must be submitted to the Patent Office along with its Arabic translation. The translation should be conducted by a Certified Translation Office in Kuwait. This submission must be completed within 3 months from the filing date.

Examination of a design application in Kuwait
A design application in Kuwait undergoes formal examination only.
No novelty grace period is stipulated in Kuwaiti legislation.

Grant, validity term and design renewal fees
After completing all formal requirements, design applications progress to publication and registration. During this stage, the Patent Office will request payment of the publication fees. Upon settlement of these fees, the application will be published, and a registration certificate will be issued. The validity period of a design patent in Kuwait is 10 years from the filing date. However, it can be extended for an additional 5 years by paying renewal fees, thus allowing a maximum protection period of 15 years.

For foreign applicants, it is necessary to perform design registration in Kuwait through an agent, a local patent attorney.
