Industrial Design in EAPO
The Eurasian industrial design is valid in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan.

Multiple design applications
Multiple design applications (up to 100 designs) are possible in EAPO if the designs belong to the same class of the Locarno Classification.

Filing requirements of a design application in EAPO
The official language of the proceedings is Russian. The industrial design application may be filed in any language, however, the Russian translation should be filed with the Patent Office within 2 months from the filing date. Submitting the translation is also possible within 2 months from the expiry date by the applicant’s request with paying the corresponding surcharge.
To obtain a filing date, it is necessary to provide the Eurasian Patent Office with:
- request for registration of an industrial design;
- applicant's details;
- representation of the design or a digital three-dimensional model;
- general view drawing of the product, team chart, if necessary, to disclose the industrial design gist;
- document confirming the payment of the corresponding fees.
A certified copy of the Priority Document should be submitted to the Office within 3 months of the filing date or within 8 months from the filing date by the applicant’s request and paying the corresponding surcharge. In case the language of the Priority Document is other than Russian the translation thereof may be requested by the Eurasian Patent Office.
A simply signed Power of Attorney may be provided within 2 months from the filing date or within an additional 4 months from the date of notification of the need to submit it with paying of the extra surcharge to the Eurasian Patent Office. The legalisation or notarization is not required.
The time limit for filing a design application in EAPO claiming priority is 6 months from the priority date. The restoration of this term is possible, within 2 months from the expiry date by the applicant’s request with paying of the corresponding surcharge.

Examination of a design application in EAPO
A design application filed in the Eurasian Patent Office undergoes both formal and substantive examinations. Substantive examination is initiated automatically. No special request or fee is required.
The disclosure of information about an industrial design by the author is not taken into account if it occurred within 12 months prior to the date of filing of the application.

Grant, validity term and design renewal fees
The official grant, registration and publication fees must be paid within 2 months from the date of receipt of the Decision to grant a patent. The extension of this term is possible for 2 additional months by paying an extra fee. The validity term of a design registration in EAPO is 5 years from the filing date. This term is renewable four times for 5-year periods up to a total term of 25 years. Renewal fees may be paid during the last year of a five-year protection period. Late renewal is possible within a six-month grace period by paying a corresponding surcharge.

Duration of registration procedure
The approximate term of registration procedure from filing to grant is about 12 months in the EAPO if the prosecution runs smoothly.

Representation by a patent attorney
For foreign applicants, it is necessary to appoint a registered Eurasian patent attorney. Patent attorneys must be registered before the Eurasian Patent Office.
