Turkmenistan is bordered by Afghanistan to the Southeast, Iran to the South and Southwest, Uzbekistan to the East and North, Kazakhstan to the Northwest, and the Caspian Sea to the West. The territory of Turkmenistan is about 491,210 km2 (189,657 sq mi), and it is the world's 53^rd largest country. Turkmenistan is a member of the Eurasian Patent Convention.
