Amendments to IP Fee Schedules in Algeria, Brazil, Denmark and Türkiye

Algeria
The Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) recently introduced a new IP fee schedule in relation to trademark and patent-related services.
As per the alterations implemented as of December 31, 2025, the fee for filing a trademark application has risen to 15,000 DZD for non-colour marks, and 16,000 DZD for marks with a colour claim.
Meanwhile, trademark renewal fees have increased to 20,000 DZD (without a colour claim) and 25,000 DZD (with a colour claim), whilst the fee for claiming priority of a trademark has increased to 5,000 DZD.
With regard to patents, the application filing fee now constitutes 15,000 DZD, and the publication fee comprises 10,000 DZD.
Patent annuity fees have also seen increases, with the cost associated with each year of patent validity from the 6th to the 10th now constituting 10,000 DZD, and the cost for the 11th to the 15th years now set at 20,000 DZD. The annuities for the 16th to the 20th years comprise 50,000 DZD.
The newly implemented fee schedule is applicable to new filings, as well as ongoing IP matters in Algeria, and is a direct result of changes recently implemented to the Finance Law of Algeria, aiming to align official IP fees with administrative and regulatory requirements.
Brazil
The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (INPI) finalised the implementation of a complete overhaul of its IP fee schedule on December 20, 2025.
The alterations to the previous fee structure were introduced in stages, with some new fees being implemented on August 7, 2025, and others on September 20, 2025. We previously reported on these fee changes here.
As of December 20, 2025, whilst the majority of new fees had already been implemented, the amended schedule abolished the fee associated with the issuance of the Letters Patent.
Other alterations introduced in December include changes to fees for specific IP procedures, such as obtaining official paper copies for claiming union priority for all IP types, the annotation of limitation or encumbrance for industrial designs, withdrawal of appeals and petitions for patents, and submitting documents to prove acquired distinctiveness for trademarks.
The staggered introduction of changes to the Brazilian IP fee schedule is hoped to have allowed for a smooth transition into the new fiscal era of the IP system for applicants, as well as to ensure the financial sustainability of the Institute to continue delivering an efficient service.
Denmark
The Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO) implemented a new IP fee schedule with regard to patents, trademarks, designs, and utility models, as well as other IP types, as of January 1, 2026, introducing increases of 20% across the vast majority of fees. Whilst most changes have been implemented immediately, alterations to the renewal fees for all IP types are applicable at staggered stages through 2026.
Patents
As per the new fee schedule, the cost associated with filing a patent application has risen from 3,000 DKK to 3,600 DKK, with the fee for each additional claim in excess of 10 increasing from 300 DKK to 360 DKK. Moreover, the publication fee has increased from 2,230 DKK to 2,675 DKK.
The new renewal fees for patents will only be applicable to those due after March 31, 2026. For those that fall after that date, the patent renewal fees have risen throughout, with years 1-3 of validity having inflated from 550 DKK to 660 DKK, year 10 from 2,560 DKK to 3,070 DKK, year 15 from 4,015 DKK to 4,820 DKK, and year 20 from 5,690 DKK to 6,830 DKK.
PCT
Whilst the majority of fees have increased, the changes brought about a decrease in the transmittal fee for international patent applications submitted via the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in Denmark. This reduction brings the Danish costs more in line with the fees set by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Trademarks
The fee for filing a trademark application has inflated from 2,000 DKK to 2,400 DKK, whilst the cost for filing a second class in an application has risen from 200 DKK to 240 DKK, and for each additional class thereafter from 600 DKK to 720 DKK. The same respective fees are due for trademark renewals, which are applicable to those due after June 30, 2026.
In addition, the fee for a specified search report increased from 700 to 840 DKK, and the cost associated with filing an opposition to a trademark application rose from 2,500 DKK to 3,000 DKK.
Industrial Designs
Filing for industrial design protection will now cost 1,440 DKK, rising from 1,200 DKK, with the fee for each additional design included in an application rising from 700 DKK to 840 DKK.
The renewal fees for industrial designs are applicable to those due after March 31, 2026, with the fee for renewal of one design now comprising 2,640 DKK, increasing from 2,200 DKK, and for each additional design included in the same application from 1,100 DKK to 1,320 DKK.
The alterations to the Danish fee schedule mark the first comprehensive changes to have been implemented with regard to certain IP fees since 2002. The revenue seen from the cost increases is set to go towards investments in customer-facing IT solutions and IT security for the DKPTO, which is expected to benefit applicants and contribute to an efficient IP system.
