USA: Amendments to the Patent Law

In order to harmonize national patent law with The Hague Agreement concerning international registration of industrial designs USA Congress passed Patent Law Treaties Implementation Act (PLTIA) on December 18, 2012.

According to the PLTIA the validity term for USA design patents was extended from 14 years to 15 years fron the date of issuance. The above-mentioned amendment will come into force for designs filed on or after May 13, 2015 (the date of entry into force of the Hague Agreement Treaty with respect to USA).
