Filing requirements in Bahrain
The official language of trademark registration in Bahrain is Arabic.
To obtain the date of filing, it is necessary to submit:
- the applicant’s details (including nationality);
- the list of goods and services to which the trademark will be applied;
- a representation of the trademark;
- a copy of the power of attorney.
A certified copy of the Priority Document and its authorised translation should be submitted within 3 months.
The original Power of Attorney must be legalized or apostilled and may be filed within 3 months from the filing date.
The term for filing a trademark application claiming conventional priority in Bahrain is six months from the priority date.

Examination, publication and opposition of a trademark application in Bahrain
Trademark applications in Bahrain undergo formal and substantive examinations. Substantive examination comprises examination of distinctiveness and search for prior trademarks. Oppositions may be filed within 60 days from the publication of a trademark on the official website of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.

Grant, validity term and trademark renewal
Trademarks in Bahrain are valid for a ten-year period from the filing date, subject to renewal every ten years for an unlimited number of times. The renewal fee is to be paid during the year when the registration expires. However, late payment is possible within a grace period of six months together with the payment of a corresponding surcharge.
The validity of a trademark registration in Bahrain may be subject to cancellation if it has not been used within five years from registration.

For foreign applicants, it is necessary to perform trademark registration in Bahrain through an agent, a registered Bahraini trademark attorney.
The time limit for the filing of a response to an international registration provisional refusal is 60 days from the date of the refusal. The IP office does not provide for extensions of this term. The language of the response is Arabic. It is necessary to appoint a Bahraini patent attorney for the filing of a response.
