Multiple design applications
Multiple design applications are possible. An application may comprise up to 50 designs, provided that such designs form one coherent unit.

Filing requirements of a design application in Egypt
The official language of the industrial design prosecution before the Egyptian Trademarks and Industrial Designs Office is Arabic.
For obtainment of a filing date, an industrial design application in Egypt shall contain the following:
- request for registration of аn industrial design;
- name and address of the applicant;
- set of pictures showing the appearance of the design;
- a short description of the design;
- proof of payment of the prescribed fees.
The legalization of the Power of Attorney up to the Egyptian Consulate in Arabic is required. It may be filed simultaneously or within 6 months from the date of filing an industrial design application.
In case the applicant is a legal entity, an Extract of the page of the commercial register where the entity is recorded, an official extract of the constitution act or a reproduction of the statute should be provided simultaneously or within 6 months after filing of the application.
A certified copy of the Priority Document should be filed within 3 months from the date of filing.
The term for filing an industrial design application claiming conventional priority in Egypt is 6 months from the priority date.

Examination of a design application in Egypt
A design application in Egypt undergoes both formal and substantive examinations. No specific examination request or fee shall be submitted.
The novelty grace period in Egypt constitutes 6 months before the filing date. If industrial design became available after the application for registration in a country member in the World Trade Organization, or a country which applies reciprocity to Egypt, or if the disclosure occurred in a national or an international exhibition or a publication about the industrial design in a conference or a scientific periodical it does not disprove the novelty of the design.

Grant, validity term and design renewal fees
After payment of the official registration fee the patent for industrial design is issued. Validity term of the patent for the industrial design in Egypt is 10 years as of the filing date. This term may be extended once for a further period of 5 years upon payment of renewal fees within the last year of the protection period. Late renewal is possible within a three-month grace period by paying a corresponding surcharge.

The average processing time from filing till registration of an industrial design in Egypt is 18-24 months.

Representation by a patent attorney
Foreign applicants must appoint an Egyptian registered attorney to represent them before the Trademarks and Industrial Designs Office.
