Italy and San Marino: Change in the cooperation in the field of IP

According to the agreement between Italy and San Marino (1939) any IP type registered before the Italian Patent Office was recognized on the territory of San Marino and vice versa.
On December 23, 2014 said agreement was retreated. In particular, mutual recognition of inventions, utility models, designs and trademarks takes place only in case this protection is obtained via national routes in Italy or San Marino.
In case of international routes (PCT, European patents, international trademarks and designs) right holders must request protection in each country separately.
You are also welcome to review the brief applicant guide for registration of the IP rights in Italy.
