Multiple-class applications
Multiple-class applications are not possible in the UAE. A separate application has to be filed for each class.

Minimum of filing documents in the United Arab Emirates
The official language of the proceedings before the UAE patent office is Arabic.
For obtainment of the filing date, the UAE trademark application must contain:
- a request for TM registration;
- information about the applicant;
- list of goods/services for which the registration is sought;
- a soft copy of a trademark image.
A certified copy of the Priority Document, along with its Arabic and English translations, must be submitted with the application. The original document may be provided within 30 days from the filing date, subject to an additional fee.
An original Power of Attorney may be provided within 30 days from the filing date, subject to an additional fee. Legalisation up to the UAE Consulate is required. Local legalisation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also required which will be handled by the local agent.
The term for filing a trademark application in the UAE claiming conventional priority is 6 months from the priority date.

Examination, publication and opposition of a trademark application in the United Arab Emirates
The examination process includes formal examination, examination on absolute grounds of refusal and a search for prior trademarks. The trademark is published for opposition before the registration. The term for opposition to the registration of a trademark in the UAE constitutes 30 days from the publication date of the TM application in the Trademark Journal. A legalized power of attorney must be filed with the opposition statement.

Grant, validity term and trademark renewal
The grant fee should be paid within 30 days after the opposition period expiry. The UAE trademark registration is valid for ten years from the filing date and can be renewed for successive periods of ten years by submitting a request within the last year of the validity term or within a grace period of three months from the registration expiry date.

Duration of registration procedure
If the process goes smoothly, it takes an average of 4-6 months to obtain the registration.
Trademark registrations can be cancelled on the grounds of non-use within 5 consecutive years from the registration date.

For foreign applicants, it is necessary to perform trademark registration in the UAE through a registered Emirati trademark attorney.
