European patent validation in Bulgaria

Detailed information related to the European Patent.
A translation of the patent’s title, description, including drawings, when necessary, and claims into Bulgarian must be submitted within three months after the date of granted patent is published in the European Patent Bulletin.

Representation by a patent attorney
An applicant who is not established in the Republic of Bulgaria, another Member State of the European Union, a state party to the European Economic Area Agreement, or the Swiss Confederation, shall be obliged to perform the patent prosecution in Bulgaria through a lawyer or an industrial property representative (patent attorney).
Annual fees are due each year starting from the 3rd one to maintain a European patent in Bulgaria and should be paid before the expiry of the last day of the month in which expires the previous patent year. Late payment of annual fees is possible within a six-month grace period, subject to payment of a corresponding surcharge.
