Foldable panel support mechanism (1), comprising a chain 82) of a plurality of panel supports (3) placed in a row that extends in a longitudinal direction (L) from a beginning (5) of the chain that is held to a base (7) to a free end (6) of the chain, the panel supports being arranged to hinge relative to each other about a hinge axis (10) that extends transversely to the longitudinal direction of the chain. The panel supports are provided with elongate runners (11) that extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the chain, such that by running the runners over the ground, the chain can be switched between an extended state (e) in which the panel supports are supported directly on the ground via the runners to cover an area of the ground adjacent the base, and a retracted state (R) in which the panel supports leave the area of the ground adjacent the base free.[French]
