An ophthalmic lens defining an optical axis can include: a plurality of annular regions extending in a radial direction away from the optical axis, including a corresponding plurality of echelettes, wherein the plurality of echelettes forms an echelette profile, wherein each the echelette profile includes a staircase profile, wherein each echelette includes a staircase step, wherein, for each staircase step, there are M phase-shift units arranged vertically, wherein M is an integer, wherein each phase-shift unit has a phase height configured to shift the phase of a reference frequency of light by approximately N*2*π, where N is an integer, and wherein the staircase profile forms an irregular staircase.[French]
