Abstract[English]
The best immediate treatment for acute injuries is to use a cold compress or ice pack. This reduces swelling and pain. Cold causes the arteries to constrict and reduces intra-tissue bleeding from the site of injury. In previous methods, to cool the affected area, use an ice pack that is wrapped in a towel and placed on the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes. In an acute injury, a cold compress can be used several times a day for three days. Cold compresses are effective in treating injuries caused by overuse of muscles and joints and in some chronic injuries. An athlete with chronic knee pain that is exacerbated by running can apply a cold compress to the painful area after running to reduce inflammation and prevent further inflammation.
