The present invention relates to a method for visual awareness. The method comprises the step of tracking an eye (1) of a user to determine a gaze direction. The method further comprises the step of determining, based on said gaze direction, a first region of interest (2', 2'') in a field of view (3) of the user, said first region of interest (2', 2'') being smaller than said field of view (3). The method further comprises the step of employing at least one sparse sensing modality to determine at least a first characteristic, at least within or proximate to said first region of interest (2', 2''). The method further comprises the step of defining a second region of interest (2''', 2''''), based on i) said gaze direction and ii) said first characteristic, wherein said second region of interest (2''', 2'''') has an overlap with said first region of interest (2', 2''). The method further comprises the step of employing at least one dense sensing modality to determine at least a second characteristic within or proximate to said second region of interest (2''', 2'''').[French]
