The invention relates to a method of operating a medical surveillance system for handling and/or surveilling at least one object in a medical operation room, wherein in the at least one object being surgical instruments and/or animal or human tissue (65) located in a storage box (60), the method comprising the following steps: • - placing the at least one object on a tray (30), wherein the tray (30) is a screen comprising one or more lighting elements, • - taking at least a first picture of the at least one object on the tray (30) at a first point in time, • -identifying the at least one object in the first picture, • - generating at least a first data set comprising data relating to the at least one object identified in the at least first picture. L'invention concerne un procédé de fonctionnement d'un système de surveillance médicale pour manipuler et/ou surveiller au moins un objet dans une salle d'opération médicale. L'au moins un objet comprend des instruments chirurgicaux et/ou un tissu animal ou humain (65) situé dans une boîte de stockage (60), le procédé comprenant les étapes suivantes consistant à : placer l'au moins un objet sur un plateau (30), le plateau (30) étant un écran comprenant un ou plusieurs éléments d'éclairage; prendre au moins une première image de l'au moins un objet sur le plateau (30) à un premier instant; identifier l'au moins un objet dans la première image; générer au moins un premier ensemble de données comprenant des données relatives à l'au moins un objet identifié dans l'au moins une première image.
