Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Herstellen eines Sicherheitsmerkmals für einen kartenförmigen Datenträger (10), welches die folgenden Schritte aufweist: Bereitstellen (100) von wenigstens einem Blattgut und wenigstens einem Klebemittel; Zusammenführen (101) des Blattguts mit dem Klebemittel zur Ausbildung einer Mischung; Zerstören (102) der Mischung zur Ausbildung einer Vielzahl von Schnipseln 21); Aufbringen (103) wenigstens einer Schicht der Vielzahl von Schnipseln (21) auf einem Laminierblech; Laminieren (104) der Schicht zur Ausbildung wenigstens einer Folie (20) als Sicherheitsmerkmal für den kartenförmigen Datenträger (10), wobei die Folie (20) eine überlappende inhomogene Verteilung der Schnipsel (21) aufweist.
