An apparatus (10) for digging a tunnel (50) by a laser (12), the apparatus (10) including: a coherently combined laser (12), for radiating onto a first area (18A), for heating the first area (18A) immediately to the evaporating temperature, and for radiating the laser (12) onto a second area (28) surrounding the first area (18A), for heating the second area (28) to the melting temperature, thereby softening (30) the second area (28).[French]
