Abstract[English]
A first method of reducing risk of periparturient hypocalcemia in a periparturient ruminant animal involves: measuring blood phosphorus concentration in the animal; and, administering a composition containing a phosphorus-binding compound and optionally, a pharmacologically acceptable carrier to the animal during at least part of a prepartum period of the animal. A second method of reducing risk of periparturient hypocalcemia in a periparturient ruminant animal involves: measuring an aluminum concentration in a feed composition; and, administering a composition containing a phosphorus-binding compound and optionally, a pharmacologically acceptable carrier to the animal during at least part of a prepartum period of the animal. In both methods, the composition having an effective amount of the phosphorus-binding compound to control the blood phosphorus concentration in a range of 1.5-3.5 mg P per dL of blood in the animal.[French]
Un premier procédé de réduction du risque d'hypocalcémie péri-parturiente chez un animal ruminant péri-parturient consiste à : mesurer la concentration de phosphore sanguin chez l'animal ; et, administrer une composition contenant un composé de liaison au phosphore et éventuellement, un support pharmacologiquement acceptable à l'animal pendant au moins une partie d'une période pré-partum de l'animal. Un second procédé de réduction du risque d'hypocalcémie péri-parturiente chez un animal ruminant péri-parturient consiste à : mesurer une concentration d'aluminium dans une composition d'alimentation ; et, administrer une composition contenant un composé de liaison au phosphore et éventuellement, un support pharmacologiquement acceptable à l'animal pendant au moins une partie d'une période pré-partum de l'animal. Dans les deux procédés, la composition présente une quantité efficace du composé de liaison au phosphore afin de réguler la concentration en phosphore sanguin dans une plage de 1,5 à 3,5 mg P par dL de sang chez l'animal.
