Abstract[English]
The invention provides a methodology for treating perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, collectively referred to as PFAS, in soils, groundwater, surface water and within other materials. PFAS exhibit a broad range of chemical properties which necessitates the application of a versatile treatment technology. The invention utilises a modified inorgano-organoclay or modified inorgano-organoclays for the treatment of PFAS which provide(s) this essential capability and flexibility. The composition of the modified inorgano-organoclay / modified inorgano-organoclays can be varied accordingly enabling the clays to exhibit varying degrees of hydrophobicity / hydrophilicity. PFAS are sorbed into the modified inorganoclay / modified inorgano- organoclays and chemically immobilised. The clays can be used in combination with cementitious materials to provide an advanced stabilisation process for the treatment of PFAS contamination in soils / other materials or used in isolation for groundwater / surface water treatment. The objective is to reduce the environmental impact of PFAS pollutants.[French]
