A method for estimating a friction coefficient of a vehicle wheel, includes the steps of measuring (S110) of one or more parameters defining part of a vehicle state; estimating (S120) the friction coefficient based on a model that describes dependencies of the vehicle state and the friction coefficient; updating (S130) the model during operation of the vehicle; and providing (S140) the friction coefficient or a parameter depending on the friction coefficient.[French]
