A method and composition for increasing or maintaining ketone body levels and improving metabolic functions, and use thereof. The method comprises administering to a subject in need thereof a composition comprising an effective amount of 3-acetoxybutyric acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, an ester thereof, or a derivative thereof. The composition further comprises an effective amount of 3-hydroxybutyric acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, an ester thereof, or a derivative thereof. Also provided is use of the composition in the preparation of a dietary supplement, food, beverage, or animal feed.[French]
