Provided herein are novel methods for promoting recruitment and activation of brown adipose tissues (BAT) or arousing browning of white adipose tissues (WAT) in a mammal, comprising administration to the mammal a composition comprising an effective amount of dihydroberberine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, acid, ester, polymer, analog or derivative thereof. It also provides a composition comprising an effective amount of dihydroberberine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, acid, ester, polymer, analog or derivative thereof, for promoting recruitment and activation of brown adipose tissues (BAT) or arousing browning of white adipose tissues (WAT) in a mammal.[French]
