Nationwide Strike in Nigeria

The Nigerian Trade Union Congress and the Labour Congress have instructed all affiliates to initiate an indefinite nationwide strike from November 13, 2023. This has resulted in the collapse of government and business activities in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and most states. Moreover, the Ministry of Trade and Investment has experienced a shutdown, which has significantly impacted the work of the Trademark, Patents, and Designs office of Nigeria. The Registry has temporarily closed, and vital services are on hiatus until further notice.

The central government has urged the unions to adhere to the court order and obey the law's principles, therefore we anticipate an improvement in the situation.

Despite these unforeseen circumstances, we are committed to providing you with the best possible service. The filing of trademark, patent and design applications and the handling of renewals remain fully operational online.

The IP-Coster team is closely monitoring the situation and is dedicated to providing updates pertaining to the strike. We aim to inform you as soon as the strike is over and the Trademark, Patents and Designs Office resumes its regular business.
